The Patrol was established as the first unit in Ballut Abyad Temple in 1904 by Potentate Edward Medler. The primary function then, and still now, is to act as an honor guard for the Potentate. Over the 98 year history of this unit it has marched as a “Arab Patrol” an “Indian Patrol”, a “Turkish Patrol” and in several different uniforms as just "The Patrol.”
The Patrol also was responsible for the conferring of the Second Section of the Shrine Initiation until 1926 when Potentate Russell Mead transferred these responsibilities to the Director's Staff. Thirty-three of the Potentates who have served this Temple have been or are members of The Patrol.
But enough of history-- look at us today! The Patrol is an active marching and social unit in Ballut Abyad Shrine Center. We meet the first Tuesdays of each month in The Patrol Loft for a light dinner and a business meeting. We march in approximately eight parades each year representing the Shrine of North America and Ballut Abyad Shrine Center.
We welcome any Noble of the Shrine of North America to be our guest and to join in the social intercourse of our meetings. This great unit is active in Ballut Abyad Shrine Center and we have fun as we support the Center.
We invite you to consider being a member of “THE PATROL.”
