JUNE 30, 2010Our June campout at Sierra Bonita was TERRIFIC! We owe thanks to our Trail Boss, Orvis Creel for the planning he and Amy put in to make our outing a success! It was very well attended, with 15 rigs there, along with 5 of our fabulous honored ladies. We enjoyed the group from Clovis - it was so good to enjoy their company!
The highlight of the weekend was the annual, delicious fish fry put on by Orvis and Burgis Bailey, ably assisted by Amy. We had some guests join us for the fish fry and ended up with them serving over 50! Following the meal, Jim Shepherd gave us and the guests a background and current information on the Shrine Hospitals.
Many of us came in a day early - on Wednesday - so we had an additional day to enjoy the time together. Our evening schedule included much good food every evening, and a potluck on Saturday, where nobody left hungry! Some of the activities enjoyed were: golfing, fishing, visiting the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, sightseeing at Angel Fire and Eagle's Nest, birdwatching, playing games and of course, just relaxing.
Since Saturday was the day before Father's Day we had a cozy campfire that evening and each told about their father. Some interesting, funny and insightful thoughts were shared. We truly honored our fathers that evening...
On Sunday morning,we enjoyed muffins, fruit and breakfast sandwiches before a reading was given by Mary McGee telling about the deprivation and hardships of our ancestors, leading us to remember how very blessed we all are and how much we owe to those who came before us. Also brought up at the meeting was the suggestion that with the fuel costs, etc. we could consider having longer campouts and possibly during the week. No action was taken at that time. A report was given by Orvis and Jim Shepherd about the hospitals, specifically the problems with building a new earthquake-resistant hospital in L.A. We all appreciate the time, effort and care that these two give for the benefit of the hospital.DETAILS FOR THE CAMPOUT AT RUIDOSO.....JULY 15, 16, 17, AND 18
