This year has started off well for the Lea County (Hobbs) Shrine Club. Our Nobles had an excellent day at the annual IHOP breakfast. Our unity helped, with a good turn out of the nobility to help with handing out literature that we had left over from last year. IHOP raised a little over $1,000 and this is always a welcome income. Any time you have an outing that produces this type of revenue for the Shrine, it is a good day. We have had several inquiries and a good bit of moaning and groaning.
The citizens are ready for the onions and don’t understand that good things come to those who wait. We are enthusiastically waiting for the onions which should be here by the end of April. When the citizenry complains in this manner it is a good indication that you are doing something right and that they are behind you with the support that your clubs need.
With the high costs of things due to runaway oil prices, everything is going to rise and it is to our benefit that our backers aren’t looking at the prices. They are looking for the service we provide and the product they enjoy. The time has come to look long and hard at different ways to bring in additional income to support our children. In addition our clubs need to brainstorm and find what is out there that will boost the income for the local clubs so they may prosper. Without the clubs keeping their heads above water to keep things rolling, the only ones who suffer are our children. Take a few minutes in your monthly meetings to discuss new ways of raising funds. The children are going to continue coming and needing our help and assistance and we need to be prepared to take care of them. Our club is trying, in a different manner, to let the general public become aware that we are here and we are here to stay and help. We are participating, as a team, in charitable undertakings within the community. We are signed up to participate in the Relay for Life program to support and raise money for the cancer foundation.
