May Chatter New

Activity is beginning to pick up here in Clovis as we are getting nearer to Pioneer Days and the Potentate’s visit, which will be the weekend of June 5th, 6th, and 7th.

Our next event will be the Paper Drive which is scheduled for Saturday, the 3rd of May. We enjoy the chance to get out and meet the public and tell them about our Shrine hospitals. Believe it or not but there are still people out there who are in need of our services and are not aware of what is available to them.

President of the Clovis Cycle Corps has called the first meeting to be on Wednesday, April 16th, at 6:30 PM at the Elks Lodge. We will discuss all of the Club’s activities for the year plus all the parades we plan to attend.

We are preparing for the onions whenever they arrive and expect to have a complete sell out. I personally have had several inquiries as to when to expect our shipment.

In case you receive this CHATTER before June 5, please come to Clovis for a fantastic weekend. I repeat –

Thursday, June 5th at 3:00pm: We will escort the Potentate, Divan and Ladies into Clovis to the Clovis Inn (Best Western) . Great HOSPITALITY ROOM will follow.

Friday, June 6th: The World Class GOLF TOURNAMENT will take place, and our Ladies plus a LADIES LUNCHEON hosted by Lady Madeline Smith.

Saturday, June 7th  We will have a PARADE, then refreshments at parade’s end and hamburgers for all at the Elks Lodge. The Potentate will be at the Clovis Shrine Club Meeting immediately after lunch.

Saturday evening we will have a No Host Bar and Oasis at Elks Lodge at 6 PM the menu is rib-eye steak or chicken cordon bleu to be followed by a program of speeches, awards and acknowledgements. DANCING will be to the music of The Black Water Band. Dress will be dressy western and Nobles, please wear fez for the banquet.

COME ONE, COME ALL, TO CLOVIS, JUNE 5, 6 & 7th!

February Chatter New

Clovis Shrine Club news. The first event for 2008 happened at our regular meeting on Thursday, January 31. We had the honor of being visited by our Potentate Bill Broughall, Assistant Rabban Ray St. John and Chief Aide Roy Leeper. We were treated to a complete and very informative orientation. The Pote and his assistants gave us information on events for the year. He mentioned we need contributions to the Transportation and Perpetual Funds to help the Temple. Membership is always an important issue, the 45 and under members are being encouraged to begin a new unit. The Pote also reported on the East/West Game which I understand turned out to be on the cold side in the stands. He also reported on his visit to the Galveston Burn Center which was very informative. Also, Lady Ginny has a Potentate’s Lady’s Pin for which she is asking a donation of $3. The proceeds will be sent to Imperial Sir’s First Lady the Heart.” It is good to get this information so early in the year so our thanks go to the Potentate, Assistant Rabban and Chief Aide.

The Clovis Shrine Club had a Super Bowl party on February 3rd at the Clovis Inn. We had a pretty good attendance and if you didn’t make it, you missed good fellowship and a very good time. We had food, food and more food. The ladies sure went all out to furnish everyone with plenty of snacks and goodies. In addition, we had biscuit, beans and coleslaw. We wish to thank Bill Strachan for the super job of icing down all the refreshments.

The Clovis Clowns attended the CIRCUS on February 8-10. I understand that Dr. No Name was the featured clown on the Circus Pin this year. Congratulations to Noble Bill Strachan. It seems to have been a well attended circus.

By the time everyone reads this article, we will be getting close to our biggest event of the year here in Clovis – the Clovis Pioneer Days Rodeo and Parade and the Potentate’s visitation. We would like to extend a special invite to everyone to come and help us celebrate that weekend. So make your plans now if you can. We would also like to invite Nobles and their Ladies plus any Units or Clubs from anywhere in the area to attend. All of the plans aren’t completed yet, but we will have a complete schedule of events for the weekend at the hospitality room at the Clovis Inn on Thursday, June 5 as soon as the Potentate arrives. You can attend the rodeo on Thursday and Friday nights (June 5 & 6). There will be a golf tournament on Friday (June 6) and the parade on Saturday (June 7) starts at 10 AM MST. At the end of the parade (115 N. Main), Noble Chick Taylor, Lady Scotty, Noble Frank Hager and Lady Dru will be serving all the parade participants cool refreshments and hospitality. At noon the Clovis Shrine Club will be having a hamburger fry for everyone at the Elks Lodge. Saturday night there will be a banquet and dance at the Elks Lodge Oasis at 6 PM (no host bar), banquet at 7 PM, and western dance at 9PM. Dress will be western casual. Nobles wear their Fez to the banquet. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR BANQUET.  Make plans now to join us for a great weekend!
