Minutes for the Stated Meeting ~ September 14, 2009
BALLUT ABYAD TEMPLE, AAOMNS, met in regular session on this
14th day of September AD 2009 at 7:00 PM. It was the regular meeting
for September.
The following officers were present:

The meeting was opened in regular form at 7:30 PM.
Noble Tom Davis, Chaplin, gave the invocation;
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Potentate Lonnie Hedrick.

The Nobility welcomed the Past Potentates.
The Potentate asked for the reading of the minutes from the
last meeting.
A motion was made from the floor to accept the minutes as written. The motion
was seconded and passed .
The Potentate requested the reading of petitions for affiliation and
initiation.
The name of Mark Isserman from Aahmes Temple, Livermore, CA, petitioned for
affiliation
Petitions to Ballut Abyad Temple for The following five individuals were read:

Zachary J. Cook, Ruidoso, NM;
Edmund Daniel Lynch, Hobbs, NM;
David L. Milchen, Ruidoso, NM; and

All six were later voted on and approved for membership.
The Potentate Then asked for the necrology report. We had
14 Nobles who rode the black camel.

The Potentate then instructed that all Nobles stand uncovered while the band
played appropriate music.
The Potentate requested that the Recorder report any communications regarding reinstatement or demits and was advised there were none.
The Treasurer presented the financial report. The Potentate asked for an appropriate motion. A motion was made from the floor to pay the bills, it was seconded and passed. A copy of the report is attached and is a part of these minutes.
The Potentate called up the proposal that gambling be allowed in the Shrine Temple which had been referred to the Fez Board for their approval. Past Potentate Patton advised the Fez Board consisting of him, Paul Arnold and Orvis Creel had several meetings with Shrine Officers, Famjam and studied the matter in depth and on this afternoon voted to approve the gambling plan which would consist of eight (8) machines.
He also said fifty percent of the net proceeds have to go to charity under state law. The casino area would have an enclosed smoking area also. Since a motion had already been made before the referral to the Fez Board the vote by the Nobility was called and the motion was passed.
Noble Hathaway advised the mini clinic has been changed with one doctor and several children are still scheduled on September 26, but the other part of the mini clinic on October 17th has been cancelled. He said as soon as he knows what is going on he will let us know. The transportation fund is currently about $10,000 behind. Efforts are being made to reduce costs and bring more Mexican Children into our program. He also asked that Nobles come up with more ways to raise money for the fund.
Noble Hathaway then made the Nobility aware of the up coming “Toys for Tots” program (run by the USMC Reserve) and that collection boxes will be placed in the Shrine and Masonic Lodges to help our local needy children. Last year the Ballut Abyad Provost Unit was the second highest collector of toys for the program.
The Potentate advised that contact has been made with the local Boy Scouts and it is hopeful we can get a defibrillation machine that gives voice operating instructions. We will be kept advised on further efforts to get the machine.
Noble James Czel related that a diaper changing table was needed in the Lady’s rest room. It was also pointed out one could also be used in the Men’s room. A motion was made to purchase these tables. The motion was referred for study by the Director’s Staff and Finance Committee and Noble Czel will head the study.
Chief Rabban St. John advised the Nobility of a resolution to raise Temple dues and that any discussion and motion will be laid over until the October 12, 2009, stated meeting. A letter will also be sent to each Ballut Abyad Noble of the resolution to be taken up at the next Stated Meeting.
Noble Thornton stated that members can also give through the United Way fund raisers.

All of the above were approved by the Nobility.
The Potentate announced the election of Ballut Abyad Officers would be on December 5,
2009, and a current 2009 dues card would be mandatory in order to gain admittance and participate in the election.
Oriental Guide Almeter advised that school nurses had been worked with for the past year to find children who need help and treatment by the Shrine. This coming years efforts will be made to concentrate on School administrators for referrals of children who need our aid.
Noble Scoggins stated the Provost Unit will support Masonic and Shrine affairs and events. The Provost is sponsoring this years Oktoberfest on October 9. Social time will start at 4:00 PM, dinner 6 to & PM, and German Band from 7 to 11 PM. Cost $13.00; tickets purchased prior to 10/5/09, includes a free mug and mug of German Beer on draft. Tickets purchased at the door, $13.00, mug $4.00 and a free mug of German Beer. The Provost Unit will also donate $100.00 to the Transportation Fund as a Memorial for James Langley. The Provost will also participate in the “Toys for Tots” program.
Assistant Rabban Crapser presented a check for $500.00 from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). He said that LANL has a program in conjunction with their employees whereby volunteer work done by the employee is rewarded by directing funds to charities of employee’s choosing.
Director Smith advised that the Caravan Club will have Ladies’ Day on September 21, 2009. Cost $9.00 per person. The Director’s Staff and Provost Unit will hold a Garage Sale at the Temple on Saturday, September 19th. He also presented Potentate Hedrick a LA Dodger’s bobble head in memory of Shrine Night with the Isotopes.
Marshal McInerney presented plaques won by Shrine Units in the State Fair Parade on September12th, 2009. The award for first place Clown Unit was given to Noble Chuck Levy of the Ballut Abyad Clowns and second place Band Unit was given to John Denslow for the Ballut Abyad Band. He then reminded the Nobility Ruidoso Visitation and Parade is scheduled for October 2nd and 3rd, 2009.
The Potentate reminded the Nobility of the Cold Sands scheduled for October 10, 2009, and that Temple Lodge 6, will have a continuation of Masonic Degrees. He then closed in short form at 8:50 PM.
